Create your own masterpiece.

Why no two portfolios should ever look alike.

There is an old debate in our industry that has never quite been settled: is investing a science, or an art? The votaries of science say it is all numbers and formulae. But if it were a formula, the brightest minds would simply solve it — and yet some of the highest-IQ investors in history have lost money in markets, while others, far from the cleverest, have compounded quietly for decades.

What has been settled is less glamorous, and far more useful. For any large family, asset allocation drives roughly 85% of long-term returns. The fund you pick, the stock you favour, the manager you admire — all of it competes for the remaining sliver. And yet allocation is precisely the part most people spend the least time on.

No two portfolios should be alike, because no two lives are alike.

Why your portfolio should not look like anyone else's

If your portfolio looks like your neighbour’s, you are living someone else’s financial life — their risk, their reward, their cash-flow needs, their timeline. For two siblings, the right allocation can be completely different. Risk appetite, obligations, the shape of a life: these are individual in every respect.

So we begin where most begin last. Before any product, before any view on the market, we ask about the family — the people, the timeline, the things that must never be put at risk and the things that can. The brief comes before the canvas.

Composition, then patience

From there we compose: an allocation built from scratch for your circumstances, diversified across asset classes and geographies, and rebalanced with discipline as life and markets move. Rebalancing is the most overlooked decision in all of wealth — the quiet act that keeps a portfolio true to the family it was built for.

We are able to do this honestly because we manufacture nothing. There is no in-house product we are paid to push, no shelf we must clear. One transparent fee, and the freedom to bring you the best of the whole market. The only two answers we ever give are a considered yes, or an honest no.

That is what we mean by a masterpiece. Not a model sold to many, but a composition made for one — built to outlast us both.
